Aoife O Connor

Topic: The Impact of Digital Resources in the History of Crime

Based in Dublin, Ireland Aoife holds a degree in history from the Open University and is currently working on her Masters thesis ‘The Children of Dublin’s Prisons 1859-1891, Containment and Confinement in the City’. Aoife previously worked as an exhibition curator with the National Library of Ireland and edited Small Lives: Photographs of Irish Childhood 1860-1970 based on the exhibition of the same name.

Currently working with Findmypast, Aoife has a keen interest in broadening access to archival materials through digitisation and the internet. She is particularly interested in the differing approaches employed by academic and commercial websites in presenting their material and the audiences which utilise them, particularly in those countries (Ireland and Australia) where criminal records, in the absence of census records, often offer the most complete sources available for non-elites.
